Unlike other US Virgins Islands, the St. John's natural beauty has been preserved in unchanged form, thanks to the contribution of the philanthropists Laurence Rockefeller, who in 1956 purchased 5,000 acres and gave it to the United States to initiate a preservation project.
Today, approximately 70% of St. John's land and its waters is designated as US National Park making this tropical island a preserve of nature trails, full of birds and marine life, a bounty of wildlife that provides a clean nesting place for a variety of turtle species.
For more than four decades St. John has been considered a beach destination, today it is considered “a true paradise”, an A list destination wealthy and famous from US and Europe alike.
